Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Suriya Jungrungreangkit, revealed that following his order for the SRT to monitor the flood situation in the northern region and closely oversee passenger travel, the latest report from the SRT confirms that water levels at Chiang Mai Railway Station have receded. Normal train services on the northern line have now resumed for the public as of the morning of September 28, 2027.
However, he has instructed the SRT to continue monitoring the water situation and provide full support and safety for public travel. In areas at risk of flooding, sufficient passenger vehicles should be prepared for public transportation, along with personnel and machinery ready for immediate deployment in emergencies.
Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, Veeris Ammarapala, added that after the water level in the Chiang Mai station area receded, staff were instructed to conduct safety inspections in accordance with the Ministry of Transport's policy. Both the station and the railway between Saraphi and Chiang Mai stations were found to be undamaged by the flood and are fully operational. He also ordered staff to expedite cleaning and prepare station facilities for service. Currently, Chiang Mai Station and all trains on the northern line are back to serving the public at 100% capacity.
During the temporary closure of Chiang Mai Station due to flooding, the SRT, following the policy of the Minister of Transport, facilitated travel for the public and foreign tourists. Buses were arranged to transport passengers from Lampang and Lamphun stations to Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Terminal, ensuring everyone's safety and aiming to provide a positive experience for passengers.

Flooding in Chiang Mai forces the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to temporarily change the terminus for 12 trains from Chiang Mai station to Lampang station until the situation improves. Bus services are arranged to transport passengers to Lamphun/Chiang Mai. Deputy Prime Minister Suriya orders 24-hour monitoring and swift track inspection for safety once floodwaters recede.
On October 5th, Mr. Weerith Amrapal, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), revealed that due to flooding in many areas of Chiang Mai province, the SRT has been forced to temporarily change the terminus from Chiang Mai station to Nakhon Lampang station as a safety precaution for passengers. This affects 12 trains, starting from October 5th, 2024, until the situation improves. The affected trains are:
1. Special Express No. 7/8 Bangkok Apiwat - Chiang Mai - Bangkok Apiwat, changed to Bangkok Apiwat - Lampang - Bangkok Apiwat
2. Special Express No. 9/10 Bangkok Apiwat - Chiang Mai - Bangkok Apiwat, changed to Bangkok Apiwat - Lampang - Bangkok Apiwat
3. Special Express No. 13/14 Bangkok Apiwat - Chiang Mai - Bangkok Apiwat, changed to Bangkok Apiwat - Lampang - Bangkok Apiwat
4. Express Train No. 51/52 Bangkok Apiwat - Chiang Mai - Bangkok Apiwat, changed to Bangkok Apiwat - Lampang - Bangkok Apiwat

Mr. Weerith added that during this change of terminus for the 12 northern train services, the SRT has received a policy emphasizing route safety from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit. Therefore, buses have been arranged to transport passengers between Nakhon Lampang station, Lamphun station, and Chiang Mai Provincial Police Station to ensure passengers reach their destinations safely. SRT staff have also been instructed to provide waiting areas and various amenities for passengers, as well as closely monitor the flood situation 24 hours a day for vigilance and timely response. Once the floodwaters recede, track and signal system inspections will be expedited to ensure passenger safety.

Lampang Lampang Railway Station is bustling with activity after flooding on the Lamphun-Chiang Mai railway line has forced northbound trains to terminate at Lampang. Passengers are being transferred to buses for both northbound and southbound journeys.
Flooding in Lamphun and Chiang Mai provinces has inundated several points along the railway, making train travel impossible. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has designated Lampang Railway Station as the temporary starting and ending point for northbound trains from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and vice versa. Buses have been arranged to transport passengers between Lampang and Chiang Mai/Lamphun.
For instance, at 5:40 PM on October 7th, Train No. 7 from Bangkok arrived at Lampang Station with 69 passengers. The SRT provided buses to transport these passengers to Lamphun and Chiang Mai. Similarly, for passengers traveling to Bangkok at 6:20 PM on the same day who had purchased tickets from Chiang Mai or Lamphun, the SRT arranged buses to transport them to Lampang Station to board the train.
This has led to increased activity at Lampang Railway Station in the hours leading up to train departures. Staff are busy checking passenger lists for those transferring to Lamphun and Chiang Mai to ensure no one is left behind. They are also managing traffic flow as buses arrive and depart with passengers at various times.
The SRT announced a change in passenger transfer points starting at 12:00 PM on October 7th, 2024. Two transfer points have been designated: Chiang Mai Railway Station and Lamphun Railway Station. However, both northbound and southbound journeys will continue to terminate at Lampang Railway Station until the floodwaters recede.
The SRT will need to assess the damage to the railway line and carry out necessary repairs before train services can resume. This is expected to take approximately one month.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Suriya Jungrungreangkit, revealed today (8 Oct 2024) that following his directive to the SRT to closely monitor the new wave of flooding in the northern region and ensure passenger care, the latest reports indicate that water levels at Chiang Mai Railway Station and along the railway lines have receded. This allows for the full resumption of train services on the Northern Line for the public this evening.
He has also instructed SRT officials in flood-prone areas across the country to remain vigilant and monitor the situation around the clock to ensure prompt responses to any developments. They are also to make necessary arrangements to facilitate convenient and safe travel for passengers.
Veeris Ammarapala added that he has ordered the cleaning and preparation of station facilities, with a strong emphasis on route safety. Civil engineering staff have been deployed to inspect the safety of the railway tracks and signaling systems, particularly in areas previously affected by flooding. With inspections and necessary repairs completed, Chiang Mai Station and all trains on the Northern Line are ready to resume normal service from 6:00 PM onwards this evening.
Veeris mentioned that during the flood and the closure of Chiang Mai Station, the SRT provided full support to both Thai and foreign passengers, arranging safe bus transfers between Lampang, Lamphun, and Chiang Mai stations.
Furthermore, a mobile kitchen was set up at Lampang Station to provide food and drinks, offering care and assistance to affected employees, staff, and passengers. This initiative was well-received by all, leaving a positive impression on the passengers. The SRT remains dedicated to ensuring safe journeys for everyone.
