MRT Purple Line Tunnel Excavation at Saphan Phut Yod Fa Station (October 2024)
The underground station design for Saphan Phut Yod Fa station is the first on the Thonburi side, located beneath Prachathipok Road, before Ban Khaek intersection. It serves as a connecting station between Sam Yot Station on the Phra Nakhon side and Saphan Phut Yod Fa Station on the Thonburi side.
Progress for Contract 3 (Phan Fa to Saphan Phut section) in September 2024 shows civil engineering work at 38.43% completion. The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) announced that ITD-NWR MRT Joint Venture, responsible for the design and construction of the tunnel and underground stations for the MRT Purple Line project (Tao Poon - Rat Burana segment, including the Kanchanaphisek Ring Road), has found it necessary to extend traffic diversion measures on the outbound lanes near Phra Pok Klao Bridge to the Centenary Celebration Memorial (Wong Wian Lek). Additionally, the traffic flow on the inbound side of Saphan Phut Bridge will be redirected to the outbound side to prepare the area for tunnel excavation at Saphan Phut station. This will occur between October 17 and December 31, 2024.
Saphan Phut station, with four entrances, will be the first station on the Thonburi side after crossing under the Chao Phraya River.
The Purple Line South subway project in Bangkok has made significant progress, with over 2 kilometers of tunnels excavated.
* Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs): The project utilizes 7 TBMs across different sections. TBM 1 has already broken through Sri Yan station and is heading towards the National Library station. TBM 2 is nearing the ventilation shaft between the Parliament and Sri Yan stations. A third TBM is being installed and will start operations in November 2024, boring from the National Library station to the Democracy Monument station.
* Progress: The overall project is approximately 40.38% complete. The underground section of the Purple Line South is 14.29 kilometers long and runs at a depth of about 41 meters.
* Completion: The project is expected to be completed and open for service by the end of 2028.
