New one has added extension to Kajang. This is also the reason why they choose Kg Abu Bakar Baginda, with connection to Kajang as well. With that connection they may increase ridership and justify the construction of the monorail. Infrastructure like underground tunnel is already there. I do hope they will revive the project or all will go wasted |

Tender for Singapore-Malaysia rail due in late 2018
Bangkok Post 5 Jul 2017 at 20:40
WRITER: KYODO NEWS
SINGAPORE - Singapore and Malaysia aim to award the tender for the development of a high-speed rail linking them in December next year, according to company officials who attended an industry briefing organised by authorities from the two countries on Wednesday.
Nearly 400 participants from 165 international and local firms attended the one-day briefing in Singapore, Malaysia's MyHSR Corp and the Land Transport Authority of Singapore said in a joint statement at the end of the briefing which they organised.
They included a consortium of 10 Japanese companies, including East Japan Railway Co (JR East) and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Japanese sources told reporters.
The 360km high-speed rail linking Singapore with Kuala Lumpur -- a bilateral initiative of the Singapore and Malaysian governments -- is expected to start operating by December 2026, reducing travel time between them to just about 90 minutes from 4-5 hours now by road.
Ngien Hoon Ping, chief executive of the LTA, said there was "strong interest from companies all over the world" in the briefing and reaffirmed a tender will be called by the end of this year.
"We look forward to receiving quality bids from various consortia," he said.
Some participants told reporters that the tender will be opened in December this year, with the deadline for submission of tender applications slated for June next year, and the award to be announced in December next year.
The sources said the participants included those from Japan, China, South Korea and Europe.
One company official speaking on condition of anonymity said, "I think it will be China versus Japan in the finals," although he also saw South Korea as a possible dark horse.
Some executives from local firms from Singapore and Malaysia have also expressed interest in joining the consortiums formed by the bigger players for a slice of the pie in the multi-billion-dollar project.
Those who attended the briefing included railway operators and construction companies, suppliers and integrators of rolling stock, engineering and legal consultants, financiers and investors, the statement said.
The objective of the briefing was to inform the participants on the progress of the project, including indicative tender parameters, procurement processes and the harmonisation of regulatory requirements, the statement said. |
