จีนปิดเส้นทางรถไฟสายตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือ - ผู้คนกว่าพันติดบนทางหลวง

สำนักข่าวซินหัวของทางการจีน รายงานว่า รถไฟพร้อมผู้โดยสารนับพันที่ออกจากเมืองอุรุมชี เมืองเอกของเขตปกครองตนเองซินเจียง ต้องยกเลิกการเดินรถ เนื่องจากพายุกำลังแรงถึง 117 กิโลเมตรต่อชั่วโมง พัดกระหน่ำทางรถไฟสายดังกล่าวในหลายจุด ขณะที่ทางหลวงสายหนึ่งในพื้นที่ดังกล่าว มีกระแสลมแรงอย่างน้อย 89 กิโลเมตรต่อชั่วโมง พัดกระหน่ำ ทำให้ประชาชนราว 1,500 คนติดอยู่ในรถยนต์กว่า 300 คัน เมื่อเย็นวานนี้ แต่ไม่มีรายงานผู้บาดเจ็บ ประชาชนจำนวนมากต้องอพยพเข้าไปอาศัยในโรงเรียนและอาคารที่ทำการรัฐบาล
ก่อนหน้านี้ เมื่อเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ เคยเกิดพายุทรายพัดกระหน่ำทำให้รถไฟตกรางในบริเวณเดียวกัน มีผู้เสียชีวิตอย่างน้อย 3 คน และบาดเจ็บ 34 คน

Asean, China Seek Private Investment for Railway Project

August 28, 2007—Southeast Asian countries and China will hold a high-profile seminar before the end of the year to lure private investments for a US $2 billion railway project linking Singapore to southern China to facilitate the flow of goods and people across the region, officials said Monday.

The Singapore-Kunming Rail Link project aims to construct or upgrade 550 kilometers (342 miles) of "missing links" in a 7,000 kilometer (4,350 miles) rail network connecting China and seven of the 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

No completion date has been set but officials were hoping to have some connection ready by the time the regional bloc fuses into an Asean Economic Community by 2015, Asean Secretary General Ong Keng Yong told reporters.

Ministers and officials of Asean and China welcomed the proposed high profile seminar to attract potential investors to the project in a joint statement after their Asean-Mekong Basin Development Cooperation meeting in Manila Monday.

Ong said officials hope to hold the seminar before the end of the year, after an October investment roadshow for Asean and the Mekong Basin spearheaded by Asean finance ministers.
At Monday's meeting, implementation of 45 projects in the Mekong Basin—a region that includes parts of Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and China—was also reviewed.

รถไฟอาเซียน-ลุ่มน้ำโขงต้องหาเงินอีก$2พันล.

โครงการทางรถไฟสายอาเซียน-ลุ่มแม่น้ำโขง ซึ่งจะเชื่อมโยงสิงคโปร์กับเมืองคุนหมิง ทางภาคใต้ของจีนนั้น ยังคงต้องการเงินลงทุนอีก 2,000 ล้านดอลลาร์ จึงจะเสร็จสิ้นสมบูรณ์ ทั้งนี้ตามคำแถลงของการประชุมความร่วมมือพัฒนาลุ่มแม่น้ำโขง-อาเซียน(เอเอ็มบีดีซี)วันนี้(27)

คำแถลงของการประชุมเอเอ็มบีดีซี ซึ่งจัดหารือต่อเนื่องจากการประชุมระดับรัฐมนตรีฝ่ายเศรษฐกิจของสมาคมอาเซียนที่กรุงมะนิลา ระบุว่า เส้นทางรถไฟซึ่งจะพาดผ่านประเทศต่างๆ 8 ประเทศริมแม่น้ำโขงนี้ ยังคงมี "ส่วนที่ขาดหายไป" อีกราว 550 กิโลเมตร

ทางด้าน อองเคงยอง เลขาธิการอาเซียนแถลงเพิ่มเติมว่า ในส่วนที่ขาดหายไปนี้ ที่ถือว่าสำคัญที่สุดคือทางเชื่อมระหว่างกรุงพนมเปญกับนครโฮจิมินห์ ที่มีระยะทางประมาณ 200 กิโลเมตร ทั้งนี้อาเซียนหวังที่จะป่าวประกาศสร้างความสนใจขึ้นในหมู่นักลงทุน ด้วยการจัดการประชุมสัมมนาพิเศษในปลายปีนี้ ซึ่งจะมีบุคคลผู้น่าสนใจในระดับสูงเข้าร่วม โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งผู้เข้าร่วมจากชาติคู่ค้าสำคัญอย่างญี่ปุ่นและเกาหลีใต้
