SRT has choosen to order chinesebuild locomotives of the GE Evolutionseries,
probably with MTU engine. As I understand is some of this locomotives running in Australia. Somebody know anything about the experiences with those locomotives in Australia? Are they still running or are they full of technical problems? police

Some of the Chinese locos supplied to New Zealand have also been found to have asbestos in the sound proofing. All the locos have been tested with the results expected within the next 7 days.
The Manufacturers had certified that there was no asbestos in the locos.
The locos, DL class, are currently stored awaiting developments.

Too bad, better use abaca or manila hemp as the substitute for asbestos

I have just heard that asbestos was also found used as a packing material in the engine bay doors.
This is to be removed before the locomotives can return to service.
The manufacturers have accepted that they are in breach of contract by having asbestos in the locomotive.
