Ministry of Culture Opens Morality Community with Rich World War II History
Bangkok, Thailand May 6, 2024 The Ministry of Culture today opened the Morality Community at Wat Tha Khanun, Kanchanaburi. This community was recognized as one of the top 10 model communities in the "Thiao Chum Chon Yon Withee" project in 2023. The area is steeped in World War II history and celebrates a vibrant mix of ethnicities.
Mrs. Yupa Thawiwattanakijaborn, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, presided over the ceremony. She highlighted the community's potential for tourism, its strong leadership, and the happiness, unity, and preservation of local wisdom among villagers.
Tourist Attractions and Activities:
History: Death Railway route, prisoner of war shelter house, Phra Buddha Footprint Peak, and Phra Buddha Chetiyagiri Peak (offering stunning panoramic views).
Culture: Diverse ethnic groups (Thai, Karen, Mon, Hmong, Burmese, Yao, Lisu), unique traditions, festivals (Tak Bat Devo, Loy Krathong), and the chance to wear a traditional sarong.
Religious Sites: Luang Phor Mahalap Sam Kasat Mondop, Luang Pu Sai's body, model train route, and old pier at Ban Tha Khanun
Shopping: Rim Kwai Market for community products like Sawatdi Raksa cloth, bamboo wicker pens, and local foods (Hang Le Mon curry, Thong Yo dessert).

The Ministry of Culture's "Visiting the Yalavithi Community" project promotes cultural tourism by highlighting communities that embrace sufficiency economy principles. The project aims to boost Thailand's soft power, create jobs and income for communities, and stimulate the national economy.
