Arresting a gang of criminals who were roaming around stealing train signaling booths, causing significant trouble and putting trains at risk of accidents, took place early in the morning on May 4. Police Lieutenant Colonel Rungthip Pansue, Deputy Superintendent of Ongkharak Police Station, Nakhon Nayok Province, led his forces to inspect the area after being informed by railway officials of a loud burglar alarm at Khlong 30 Railway, Bang Pla Kot Subdistrict, Ongkharak District. They hurried to the scene and discovered a bronze Toyota sedan with three individuals inside, one of whom was driving. When asked to stop, the driver accelerated and fled, prompting a request for reinforcements via radio.
Subsequently, Police Lieutenant Colonel Yingyot Channa and Police Lieutenant Colonel Rungphet Sida deployed forces to intercept the fleeing vehicle along the route near Khlong Sib Si - Nong Suea. The driver, identified as Mr. Panakorn Daosingh, 34 years old, was apprehended, along with his girlfriend, Ms. Waraporn Phusaengthong, 21 years old, and his younger sister, Ms. Somporn Daosingh, 30 years old. A search of the sedan yielded stolen railway signaling equipment, including a signal cabinet, transformer, relay, gas tank, air tank, air hose, cutting tools, and license plates PT 9375 Bangkok. Further investigation led to the discovery of additional stolen equipment at Mr. Panakorn's residence in Pathum Thani Province.
During interrogation, Mr. Panakorn confessed to stealing train signaling booths and selling them for profit, claiming it was his first offense. However, authorities doubted his claim and continued questioning until he revealed the involvement of another gang member, Mr. Nikhom Wilai, age 30, who was subsequently arrested with possession of methamphetamine tablets.
Mr. Samai Yumarerng, Inspector of the Signaling and Telecommunications Department at the State Railway of Thailand, reported frequent thefts of signaling control equipment, which posed risks to train operations. The total damage value had yet to be determined, but the thefts had disrupted train services from Chachoengsao Province to Kaeng Khoi District, Saraburi Province.
The police charged Mr. Panakorn, Ms. Waraporn, and Ms. Somporn with conspiracy to commit theft, while Mr. Nikhom faced drug possession charges. Further charges might be added pending additional evidence. All suspects were detained for prosecution, and investigations into their procurement sources were ongoing.
