Train Crash at Railroad Crossing Leaves Two Seriously Injured

A train collision with a pickup truck at a railroad crossing in Phan Thong District, Chonburi Province, has left two people seriously injured. The incident occurred this afternoon (May 27, 2024) at the Khok Khi Wor intersection, between Don Si Non Station and Phan Thong Station.
Investigators from Phan Thong Police Station, along with the Sawang Park Thammasathan Association rescue team, responded to the scene. The two injured individuals, both female employees of a local subdistrict administrative organization, were transported to the hospital in serious condition.
The pickup truck involved in the accident, which displayed the logo of the Subdistrict Administrative Organization, was severely damaged. The back of the vehicle was completely destroyed, and it came to rest upside down on the railroad tracks. Approximately 800 meters away, freight train D.5206, which had been traveling from Lat Krabang to Laem Chabang, was found parked.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the pickup truck attempted to cross the tracks after one train had passed but before another train traveling in the opposite direction had cleared the intersection. Despite the train driver's warning whistle, the pickup truck failed to stop and was struck from behind, causing it to spin and overturn.
It is believed that the driver of the pickup truck may not have noticed the approaching train due to the distraction of the first train.
