Tickets Open for the Commemorative Steam Train on the Historic Bangkok-Ayutthaya Route

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is opening ticket reservations for the special commemorative steam train honoring His Majesty the Kings 72nd birthday. This historic route runs from Bangkok to Ayutthaya, with ticket sales starting on June 28, 2024.
On June 27, 2024, Mr. Ekrach Sriarayapong, Chief of the Governors Office of the State Railway of Thailand, announced that in celebration of His Majesty the Kings 72nd birthday on July 28, 2024, the SRT has organized a special historical steam train trip from Bangkok to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. This initiative not only honors His Majesty but also provides the public with an opportunity to express their loyalty and gratitude for the Kings numerous benevolent deeds.
Passengers will travel on the historic Bangkok-Ayutthaya-Bangkok route aboard Pacific steam locomotives No. 824 and 850, which were manufactured by Nippon Sharyo Ltd. post-World War II. The journey will depart from Bangkoks Hua Lamphong Station at 8:10 AM, arriving in Ayutthaya at 10:20 AM. Tourists will then have about six hours to explore Ayutthayas historical sites, visit sacred temples, and enjoy the old-town ambiance. The return trip departs from Ayutthaya at 4:40 PM, arriving back in Bangkok at 6:50 PM.
Ticket prices for a round trip in third-class seating are 329 THB for adults/children, and air-conditioned (OTOP) carriages are priced at 799 THB, including refreshments and drinks. Additionally, passengers on this trip will receive complimentary Dettol products courtesy of a collaboration between the SRT and Reckitt Benckiser (Thailand) Ltd.
Mr. Ekrach mentioned that ticket sales will begin nationwide on June 28, 2024, at 8:30 AM. Interested individuals can purchase and reserve tickets up to 30 days in advance through the D-Ticket system or at any railway station across the country.
For those unable to join this trip, the SRT has planned two additional special family-oriented trips in August. The Mother Takes Her Child on a Historic Steam Train trip from Bangkok to Chachoengsao Junction on August 12, 2024, and the Mother Takes Her Child on the Royal Blossom Happiness Train trip from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi on August 17, 2024. These trips aim to strengthen family bonds and promote domestic tourism in line with government policy.
