Bangkok, August 2 - The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is penetrating the tourism market, ready to organize special trips that can be enjoyed throughout the year, supporting income generation for communities and promoting the domestic economy. It is expected that in 2024 there will be more than 150,000 tourists.
Mr. Ekrarat Sriarayanpong, Head of the Office of the Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, revealed that the SRT has continuously prioritized supporting and promoting domestic tourism, in accordance with the policy of Mr. Surapong Piyachoti, Deputy Minister of Transport, to distribute income to local areas, strengthen the grassroots economy of the country, and increase the use of rail services. This is in line with the government's "IGNITE Thailand" tourism promotion policy, which aims to focus on using the country's public transportation system as a tool to stimulate travel throughout the year, generate income for the tourism industry, and pass it on to local communities.
Currently, the SRT has opened special tourist trains on weekends, offering a variety of services, such as steam locomotive tours, waterfall/Pradipat Beach Garden tours, KIHA 183 trains, Pa Sak Jolasid Dam tours, and the Royal Blossom train, which will open its first service on August 17th on the Bangkok (Hua Lamphong) - Kanchanaburi route. It has received a lot of interest from tourists, causing tickets for that day to sell out quickly. To support tourism, the SRT has therefore scheduled additional Royal Blossom trains on Saturdays, August 24th and 31st, 2024, on the Bangkok (Hua Lamphong) - Kanchanaburi route. Tickets will be available for sale in early August.
The SRT has organized new special tourist train programs in various formats so that tourists can travel during every festival, both in major cities and attractive cities across the country, in collaboration with partners from both the government and private sectors. This is to create continuous travel throughout the year, help promote the domestic economy, and generate income for communities. From January to June 2024, there were 77,000 tourists who used train travel services. It is expected that throughout 2024, there will be more than 150,000 tourists using the service.
In addition, the SRT has prepared a plan to expand its market base by opening opportunities for government agencies and interested private sectors to rent chartered tourist trains, both in the form of day trips or overnight stays, whether it's the KIHA 183 or Royal Blossom trains, which will serve short-distance routes such as Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri, Ratchaburi, Saraburi, including trains that can serve routes in the North, Northeast, and South. Tourists can design their own travel styles in various ways, whether it's activities or festivals of each province in different regions. Importantly, they can travel throughout the year.
Mr. Ekkarat added that during August-September 2024, the SRT would like to deliver happiness with special travel trips on the KIHA 183 train, taking you to experience the romantic atmosphere of the rainy season, with 16 trips on 7 routes, fulfilling the joy in your heart with various routes to suit every lifestyle, including spiritual, nature, and shopping, tasting, and chilling routes. There are options for both day trips and overnight stays every Saturday and Sunday, limited to 202 seats per trip only. For more information, please contact the Customer Relations Center at 1690 or the Facebook fan page of the State Railway of Thailand PR team, 24 hours a day.
Finally, the SRT believes that organizing railway tourism activities will be an important part of economic growth, which will help drive towards the government's goal of generating income from tourism, truly developing the grassroots economy, and being able to accommodate both domestic and international tourists to experience and participate in activities along community tourism routes. This will help develop Thailand into a quality tourist destination with a unique identity based on culture, which will help promote domestic tourism and stimulate income distribution to local areas. -513-Thai News Agency
