Tickets Open for the Commemorative Steam Train on the Historic Bangkok-Ayutthaya Route

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is opening ticket reservations for the special commemorative steam train honoring His Majesty the Kings 72nd birthday. This historic route runs from Bangkok to Ayutthaya, with ticket sales starting on June 28, 2024.
On June 27, 2024, Mr. Ekrach Sriarayapong, Chief of the Governors Office of the State Railway of Thailand, announced that in celebration of His Majesty the Kings 72nd birthday on July 28, 2024, the SRT has organized a special historical steam train trip from Bangkok to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. This initiative not only honors His Majesty but also provides the public with an opportunity to express their loyalty and gratitude for the Kings numerous benevolent deeds.
Passengers will travel on the historic Bangkok-Ayutthaya-Bangkok route aboard Pacific steam locomotives No. 824 and 850, which were manufactured by Nippon Sharyo Ltd. post-World War II. The journey will depart from Bangkoks Hua Lamphong Station at 8:10 AM, arriving in Ayutthaya at 10:20 AM. Tourists will then have about six hours to explore Ayutthayas historical sites, visit sacred temples, and enjoy the old-town ambiance. The return trip departs from Ayutthaya at 4:40 PM, arriving back in Bangkok at 6:50 PM.
Ticket prices for a round trip in third-class seating are 329 THB for adults/children, and air-conditioned (OTOP) carriages are priced at 799 THB, including refreshments and drinks. Additionally, passengers on this trip will receive complimentary Dettol products courtesy of a collaboration between the SRT and Reckitt Benckiser (Thailand) Ltd.
Mr. Ekrach mentioned that ticket sales will begin nationwide on June 28, 2024, at 8:30 AM. Interested individuals can purchase and reserve tickets up to 30 days in advance through the D-Ticket system or at any railway station across the country.
For those unable to join this trip, the SRT has planned two additional special family-oriented trips in August. The Mother Takes Her Child on a Historic Steam Train trip from Bangkok to Chachoengsao Junction on August 12, 2024, and the Mother Takes Her Child on the Royal Blossom Happiness Train trip from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi on August 17, 2024. These trips aim to strengthen family bonds and promote domestic tourism in line with government policy.

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has organized a special historic steam locomotive tour to celebrate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King's 72nd birthday on July 28, 2024. The journey began at Bangkok Station (Hua Lamphong) at 08:00 and arrived at Ayutthaya Station at 13:00. This event was held to express loyalty and gratitude for the King's numerous royal duties that have brought happiness and prosperity to the people.
On this occasion, the SRT invited the public to participate in remembering the King's benevolence towards the Thai people by joining the historic journey. The tour featured a Pacific steam locomotive, running from Bangkok Station (Hua Lamphong) to Ayutthaya and back, under train numbers 901/902. The steam locomotives used were Pacific types, numbers 824 and 850, built by Nippon Sharyo after World War II and first introduced in 1949. These locomotives are currently preserved and maintained at the Thonburi Locomotive Depot and are used for special tours on only six significant days each year.

These partners include Boonrawd Trading Co., Ltd., which provides complimentary drinking water and vouchers for mothers on the trip, and Reckitt Benckiser (Thailand) Co., Ltd., which provides Dettol products for all passengers and sanitizes the trains. Additionally, Dhipaya Insurance Public Company Limited offers complimentary accident insurance and food poisoning coverage to all passengers.

Mr. Veeris Ammarapala, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, revealed that in remembrance of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Day on October 23rd, which marks the anniversary of the passing of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), the SRT will operate a special steam train on the historic Bangkok-Ayutthaya-Bangkok route. This initiative expresses loyalty and commemorates the King's graciousness in bestowing the railway upon the Thai people.
On this occasion, the SRT invites the public and tourists to join a journey back in time to honor the King's legacy. The historic Bangkok-Ayutthaya-Bangkok route will feature a steam locomotive, Pacific No. 824 and 850, a post-World War II model manufactured by Nippon Sharyo, currently preserved and maintained at the Thonburi Locomotive Depot. This locomotive is used for public service only on special occasions.

Mr. Wirith Amrapal, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, presided over the opening ceremony at Bangkok Railway Station (Hua Lamphong) with SRT executives, staff, and enthusiastic tourists in attendance.
This special steam train journey on the historic Bangkok-Ayutthaya line marks the anniversary of King Chulalongkorn's passing. It serves as a tribute to his legacy and his contribution to Thailand's railway development. King Chulalongkorn inaugurated the first railway line between Bangkok and Ayutthaya, spanning 71 kilometers, which has significantly contributed to the country's progress.
For this commemorative journey, the SRT employed Pacific steam locomotives No. 824 and 850, both post-World War II models manufactured by Nippon Sharyo, Ltd.
