SRT Announces the Cancellation of Thonburi - Namtok Train Route Between Namtok Station and Wang Pho Due to Flooding

Mr. Ekarat Sriarayanphong, Head of the Governor's Office of the State Railway of Thailand, announced that due to continuous heavy rain in many areas, water began flowing onto the railway tracks on May 14, 2024, at 12:40 a.m. This occurred between Namtok Station and Wang Pho in Kanchanaburi Province, resulting in unsafe driving conditions.
Therefore, the Railway is required to suspend the Thonburi - Namtok line between Namtok Station and Wang Pho, along with the suspension of one local train, starting from May 14, 2024, until further notice. The specific changes are as follows:
1. **Suspension of travel on the Thonburi - Namtok line between Namtok Station and Wang Pho for three trains:**
- Ordinary Train No. 260 (Namtok - Thonburi): Will operate only between Wang Pho and Thonburi.
- Local Train No. 485 (Kanchanaburi - Namtok): Will operate only between Kanchanaburi and Wang Pho.
- Ordinary Train Nos. 257/259 (Thonburi - Namtok): Will operate only between Thonburi and Wang Pho.
2. **Suspension of one local train:**
- Train No. 486 (Namtok - Kanchanaburi)
Following a preliminary inspection by railway officials, it was found that the tracks between kilometer markers 183/15 and 184/3, spanning approximately 220 meters, were flooded 25 centimeters above the rail ridge. The flood caused the railway track supports to be washed away, leading to the collapse and damage of the tracks. In the area of kilometer markers 184/6 to 184/9, the water level has decreased, allowing civil engineering officials to carry out repairs. It is expected that the bus service will resume as usual by noon today.
However, the railway continues to closely monitor the flood situation. Administrative staff, civil technicians, and station masters in the area are actively assessing and addressing the situation as needed. Personnel and safety measures are in place to ensure passenger safety.

This comes after flooding had damaged the railway tracks, with water levels reaching 25 cm above the rail ridge, washing away rail supports. SRT is closely monitoring the situation to ensure passenger convenience.
Mr. Ekarat Sriarayanphong, Head of the Governor's Office at the SRT, revealed that SRT is urgently repairing the railway in the area of kilometer markers 183/15-184/3 between Namtok Station and Wang Pho in Kanchanaburi Province. Heavy rains caused flood levels to rise 25 centimeters above the rail ridge over a distance of approximately 220 meters, washing away the railroad bed stones and causing the railway to collapse and damage the area of kilometer markers 184/6-184/9. Repairs are expected to be completed, and train services are anticipated to resume as usual at 12:00 noon today (14 May 2024).
Mr. Ekarat further stated that due to this incident, the SRT had temporarily halted the Thonburi-Namtok line between Namtok Station and Wang Pho. Consequently, one local train service will be suspended temporarily as follows:
1. The Thonburi-Namtok train service will be suspended between Namtok Station and Wang Pho.
- Regular train number 260 Namtok-Thonburi will operate only between Wang Pho and Thonburi.
- Local train number 485 Kanchanaburi-Namtok will operate only between Kanchanaburi and Wang Pho.
- Ordinary trains 257/259 Thonburi-Namtok will operate only between Thonburi and Wang Pho.
2. Local train 486 Namtok-Kanchanaburi will not operate.

Due to the heavy and widespread rainfall in many areas of the upper northern provinces over the past week, resulting in flash floods, and a rapid increase in water levels in rivers and tributaries, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is closely monitoring the flood situation and has prepared personnel to ensure the safety and facilitate travel for the public. The SRT is also fully prepared to provide assistance to people in flood-affected areas.
Mr. Jare Rungthaniy, Deputy Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, Acting Governor of the SRT, has ordered relevant departments to prepare for the situation. He has instructed the Operations Department to assign station masters and staff in the area to continuously monitor the water situation, and to arrange waiting areas and facilities for passengers around the stations.
In addition, the SRT has assigned the Civil Engineering Department to prepare for the flood situation by requesting maintenance staff to inspect the tracks, monitor water levels at all times, and prepare manpower and maintenance equipment to be ready on-site. They are also to increase the frequency of track inspections and plan for dredging canals and drains to prevent flooding, as well as removing weeds and branches along the railway that may obstruct visibility. The Signaling and Telecommunications Department has been instructed to inspect automatic barriers, signals, warning signs, and traffic signs at level crossings to ensure they are in working order to facilitate and ensure the safety of the public.
Regarding the current water situation, the SRT has received a report from staff at Khlong Maphlap Station in Sukhothai Province that the railway bridge between Khlong Maphlap and Sawankhalok stations has a strong current and the water level is continuously rising, but it has not yet affected train operations. The SRT has urged all departments to be prepared for the flood situation and to be ready to provide assistance to the public by preparing railcars to facilitate those affected by the floods.
Landslide! Khun Tan Railway Tunnel Entrance Blocked, All Northern Line Trains Suspended.

At 11:42 PM, Khun Tan Station reported a landslide at the entrance of the Khun Tan tunnel on the Mae Tan Noi - Khun Tan side, blocking train passage. The Civil Engineering Department has been contacted for inspection and initial repairs.
Later, at 2:17 AM, track inspection personnel reported an additional landslide at km 684/3-4 between Khun Tan and Tha Chomphu stations. The track is impassable due to soil erosion causing the track to subside by about 6 meters. The line has been closed for repairs.
Passengers on express trains bound for Chiang Mai will be stopped at Lampang Station. The railway will arrange bus transfers from Lampang Station to Chiang Mai Station for these passengers.
