The Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1, connecting Bến Thành and Suối Tiên, has recently announced its fare structure. Here's a comprehensive breakdown of the ticket prices:
## Single-Trip Fares
- **Cash payments**: VNĐ7,000 to VNĐ20,000 ($0.28 to $0.79) per trip, depending on the distance[1][3]
- **Non-cash payments**: VNĐ6,000 to VNĐ19,000 ($0.24 to $0.75) per trip[1][3]
## Time-Based Passes
- **One-day pass**: VNĐ40,000 ($1.6) for unlimited trips within the day[1][2]
- **Three-day pass**: VNĐ90,000 ($3.6) for unlimited travel within three days[1][2]
## Monthly Passes
- **Regular monthly pass**: VNĐ300,000 ($12)[1][5]
- **Student monthly pass**: VNĐ150,000 ($6), a 50% discount for students and pupils[1][3]
## Special Considerations
The city's budget is expected to cover 100% of fares for:
- War veterans
- People with disabilities
- Elderly citizens aged 60 and above
- Children under six years old accompanied by an adult
- Passengers using bus routes connected to Metro Line 1
- All passengers traveling on Metro Line 1 within the first 30 days of commercial operation[1]
The Department of Transport developed this fare plan using a cost-based approach, comparing it to fares on the Cát Linh - Hà Đông Metro line in Hà Nội and considering public affordability studies. The Metro Line 1 will receive government subsidies to encourage its use and make it competitive with other transportation options[1].
It's worth noting that a contactless payment system will be available on the metro, developed through a partnership between FPT IS and Mastercard[2].
The Metro Line 1, which stretches 19.7km from Bến Thành Station in District 1 to Long Bình depot in Thủ Đức City, is expected to begin commercial operations by the end of 2024, with the project currently at 99% completion[1].
