The Red Line commuter train service, operated by the SRT Electric Train Co., Ltd. (SRTET), has seen a continuous increase in ridership. On weekdays (Monday-Friday), there are approximately 43,000-44,000 passengers per day, while on weekends (Saturday-Sunday), there are 25,000-30,000 passengers per day. Following the implementation of the 20-baht flat fare for the entire line in the first year, ridership increased by about 20%. In 2025, the SRTET aims to achieve a 23% ridership growth compared to 2024, which translates to an increase of 9,890 passengers, bringing the total to 52,890 passengers per day. Under normal circumstances, general electric train ridership grows by 7-10% annually. According to a study, the target ridership for the Red Line is 86,000 passengers per day.
Mr. Suthep Punpeng, Managing Director of SRTET, stated that the company is focused on providing additional services to enhance passenger convenience and satisfaction, particularly in terms of seamless and safe connections with other public transportation systems. Recently, the SRTET has been in discussions with the Crown Property Bureau's Asset Development Co., Ltd. (CPB-AD) to launch a free shuttle service trial route between Soi Chaeng Watthana 5 (Lak Si Station) and the Government Complex Commemorating His Majesty the King's 80th Birthday Anniversary, Chaeng Watthana (Building B). This project is currently under review by the CPB-AD's consultant, who will propose the route and finalize the details to prepare for the service launch and determine the schedule. Once the trial service begins, passenger data will be collected, and passenger satisfaction will be surveyed. The service is expected to start in March 2025. Initially, the pick-up and drop-off point will be located at the entrance of Soi Chaeng Watthana 5, about 400 meters from Lak Si Station Exit 1, which is about a 6-minute walk to the shuttle service for the Government Complex (Building B).
Mr. Suthep also mentioned ongoing discussions with Future Park Rangsit shopping mall regarding the provision of a feeder service connecting from Rangsit Station (Red Line) to Future Park Rangsit. A site survey within Rangsit Station will be conducted soon, followed by a meeting to discuss and analyze the data to assess the feasibility of the project.
