MRTA is preparing to build Skywalks and connecting walkways at 2 more locations: the Yellow Line and Airport Rail Link at Hua Mak Station, and the Pink Line and Red Line at Lak Si Station, with a total budget of over 58 million baht, in accordance with the decision of the Commission for the Management of Land Traffic (CMLT). The plans will be submitted to the board and the Cabinet for approval, with the aim of opening for service in 2026 to increase passenger convenience.
Mr. Withaya Phanmongkol, Deputy Governor (Operations) Acting Governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), revealed that according to the resolution of the Commission for the Management of Land Traffic (CMLT) on December 23, 2024, which assigned MRTA to construct connecting walkways in the interchange areas of the Yellow Line project, Lat Phrao-Samrong section, and the Pink Line project, Khae Rai-Min Buri section, currently, it is awaiting the official CMLT resolution, after which it will be submitted to the board meeting (board) of MRTA for investment approval and submitted to the Cabinet for further approval. The reason for submitting to the Cabinet is that it is a new investment project that is not included in the 2025 budget plan, so it must be submitted to the Cabinet for consideration by the Budget Bureau to allocate additional budget.
"Currently, MRTA is working on the project details in parallel. When the official CMLT resolution is obtained, it will be submitted to the MRTA board immediately."
Mr. Withaya said that after the Cabinet approves, MRTA will expedite the detailed design and enter the procurement process, with the goal of opening for service in 2026. For the connection of the electric train stations to facilitate passengers, the private sector will follow the market mechanism, which recently MRTA has just opened a connection between the Nakhonaphiphat Metropolitan Train Line (MRT Yellow Line) at Suan Luang R. 9 Station (YL15) and Seacon Square Shopping Center, which found that the number of passengers at Suan Luang R. 9 Station has increased from the original as well.
As for the construction project of the Yellow Line connecting walkway, Lat Phrao-Samrong section, at Hua Mak Station, there will be 2 points with a total budget of 49.25 million baht, namely: 1. Connecting the Yellow Line with the Airport Rail Link project at Hua Mak Station by constructing an elevated walkway (Skywalk) with a distance of 51 meters, with a budget of 42.10 million baht.
2. Connecting the Yellow Line with the long-distance train of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) by constructing a ground level walkway with a roof (Cover Walkway) with a distance of 150 meters, with a budget of 3.08 million baht.
3. Design and construction supervision fees of 4.07 million baht.
The construction project of the Pink Line connecting walkway, Khae Rai-Min Buri section, with the Red Line suburban train at Lak Si Station, by constructing a ground level walkway with a roof covering a distance of 57 meters, with a total budget of 9.49 million baht (construction cost of 8.70 million baht, design and construction supervision fees of 0.79 million baht).
