On June 26, Mr. Veeris Ammarapala, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), along with executives from SRT, SRT Electric Rail Co., Ltd. (SRTET), and the SRTET State Enterprise Labor Union, inspected the electric train maintenance center on Kamphaeng Phet 6 Road. The visit aimed to assess and strategize the organization of the area for safety and orderliness, following reports from SRTET regarding issues that could impact safety, cleanliness, and the convenience of staff operations.
Mr. Veeris stated that the inspection revealed extensive unauthorized encroachment outside the maintenance center's fence. Furthermore, a significant amount of rubbish had been illegally dumped inside the fence, leading to disorder around the workshop's perimeter and potentially creating hygiene and safety problems. Therefore, he ordered the immediate installation of warning signs for trespassers and prompt rubbish collection.
Simultaneously, residual construction debris left uncollected in the area was noted, causing disarray and posing a risk of damage. He consequently ordered the swift and proper disposal of such materials and the establishment of guidelines for improving the surrounding landscape to enhance safety, restore order, and reduce the risk of accidents.
Additionally, concerning several broken and uncovered manholes, which could endanger staff, especially at night or during the rainy season, he instructed relevant departments to investigate the cause immediately and urgently procure replacement covers to ensure the safety of employees working within the area.
The SRT Governor also discussed SRT's land management approach, noting that SRT is responsible for a vast amount of land, some of which is not being fully utilized. He suggested that in the future, charging fees for land use might be considered to facilitate systematic management. More importantly, this would help prevent encroachment and avoid inconveniencing commuters.
"Every voice from our employees is incredibly important. This on-site visit isn't just about listening to problems; it's the beginning of concrete solutions to create a safe, orderly, and conducive working environment for our staff, as well as convenience for the public who travel through these areas," Mr. Nirut concluded.
