VinSpeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (under Vingroup) has announced to solicit opinions on the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report of the project Ben Thanh - Can Gio railway project.
Accordingly, the main line is nearly 53km long, passing through 8 communes and wards including Bến Thành, Xóm Chiếu, Tân Thuận, Tân Mỹ, Nhà Bè, Bình Khánh, An Thới Đông and Cần Giờ, using about 317 hectares of land.
The railway line starts at the Hàm Nghi - Lê Lợi intersection Bến Thành market) and ends at the Cần Giờ coastal tourism urban area project.
VinSpeed plans to build a double-track line with a gauge of 1,435 mm, with a design speed of 350 km/h. Phase 1 includes two stations Ben Thanh and Can Gio, then expand to 4 more stations in Tân Thuận, Tân Mỹ, Nhà Bè and Bình Khánh. The depot and control center (OCC) are located in Can Gio commune.

(KTSG Online) - Ho Chi Minh City's metro line No. 2 was adjusted to VND 52,047,000 million, an increase of more than VND4,000,000 million, due to technology updates, capital conversion and offsetting the impact of fluctuations in raw material prices.
According to the website of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) , this unit has sent a report on adjusting the metro project No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the Department of Construction.
After adjustment, the total investment of the project was raised to 52,047 billion VND, an increase of more than 4,000 billion VND compared to the initial estimate (47,800 billion VND).
Of which, site clearance cost is 5,096 billion VND; construction cost is 20,623 billion VND; equipment cost is 9,208 billion VND; consulting fee is 3,627 billion VND; reserve is 7,441 billion VND and other expenses.
MAUR said the project adjustment comes from many factors, including updating capital sources, volume according to new design, standards and unit prices, to closely reflect reality.
The capital increase is mainly due to expanding the project scale, adding works to synchronously connect with metro lines 1 and 6; applying new technology, replacing the technology approved more than 10 years ago; converting all capital sources from ODA loans to the city budget.
In addition, objective factors such as price inflation and fluctuations in raw material prices since the project adjustment in 2019 have also increased the total investment. The additional capital is also to ensure the project is completed by 2030.
In terms of technology, Metro Line 2 is expected to use an overhead power supply system, similar to Metro Line 1, instead of using a third rail as originally designed. An automatic train driving system and renewable energy recovery technology will also be added.
MAUR said the project will be submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for approval on December 15 and is expected to start construction on January 15, 2026. This is also the city's first project that is expected to apply special mechanisms under Resolution 188 of the National Assembly to speed up progress.
With a total length of 11km, of which 9km is underground, the project had to spend a lot of time relocating underground sewer systems, power cables and water pipes before operating the TBM tunnel boring machine.
