At 9:24 AM on November 14, Pol. Col. Saksit Khongsaktakul, Superintendent of Sikhio Police Station, Sikhio District, Nakhon Ratchasima, received a report of a train-car collision at a railway crossing near Ban Mai Samrong, Moo 3, Lat Bua Khao Subdistrict, Sikhio District, and went to investigate.
At the scene, near railway telegraph pole 211/1 between Lat Bua Khao and Ban Mai Samrong train stations, a bronze Toyota pickup truck was found wrecked after being struck in the rear left by Bangkok Apiwat-Ubon Ratchathani express diesel railcar No. 21. Four people were injured, including three men and one woman, identified as Mr. Manoonsak Marach, Mr. Thawai Charoenthap, Ms. Phongphit Tuamsungnoen, and an unidentified Thai man. Rescuers from the Hook 31 emergency unit in Sikhio transported the injured to Sikhio Hospital. Initial reports indicate that their injuries are not serious, though doctors are keeping them under observation due to the severe impact.
An investigation revealed that the truck, driven by Mr. Manoonsak, was attempting to cross an unguarded track with only a warning sign as the train approached at high speed. Despite almost clearing the crossing, the train struck the rear of the truck, causing it to spin into a nearby post. Fortunately, the truck was not dragged by the train. Repairs were needed for the trains front grille, which was damaged and had to be cut off, resulting in a 90-minute delay.
