At 4:30 PM on November 30, 2024, a train carrying oil crashed into a herd of cows in the Huai Thung village area, Tambon Phra Bat, Mueang District, Lampang Province. The incident was captured on video and shared online by Facebook user "Maythita Tajai". Police from Khelang Nakhon Police Station, Mueang District, Lampang Province, were notified and rushed to the scene.
The incident occurred approximately 1 kilometer from Nong Wua Thao Railway Station. Six cows were killed, including 3 large cows, 2 small cows, and an unborn calf that was ejected from its mother's womb due to the impact. The scene was described as "pitiful". There were no human injuries. The train was delayed for several minutes while the carcasses were removed from under the train.
The owner of the video, a local resident, reported seeing the dead cows under the train with meat scattered across the tracks. Some villagers collected the scattered meat, while others used pickup trucks to transport the carcasses away. As of yet, no one has claimed ownership of the cows.
The locomotive sustained damage to its front air brake pipe and had to reverse to Nong Wua Thao Railway Station before being sent for repairs at the Lampang Railway Station workshop. Police are working to identify the owner of the cows to seek compensation for the damage to the train.
