Have you seen this? The clearing work for the Ban Nong Waeng Rai section, the starting point of the Ban Phai-Nakhon Phanom double-track railway line, has been completed and it's huge!
The Ban Phai-Nakhon Phanom double-track railway has reached less than 3%. Contractors still cannot enter the area. There is hope for a successful casting of the curved bridge.
A news report from the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) informs that the new double-track railway project is now the Northeastern Line (Isan), Ban Phai-Maha Sarakham-Roi Et-Mukdahan-Nakhon Phanom section, covering a distance of 355 kilometers (km) with a budget of 66.8 billion baht. It is under discussion and various detailed information is being considered, including the advantages and disadvantages, in order to determine whether to utilize BEBO Arch's backfilled arch bridge technology from Switzerland for the new double-track railway project. This technology, used for the new double-track railway project of the Northern Line, Den Chai-Chiang Rai-Chiang Khong section, may be the first of its kind in Thailand, eliciting interest from multiple parties.
At this time, there is also the possibility of changing the design of the bridge at the railway and road intersection to utilize a prefabricated curved railway bridge. This change is motivated by several factors, including the reduction of construction time by half, cost savings of 10-20%, reduced carbon dioxide emissions from the use of cement and steel, and increased clearance height of the underpass compared to traditional bridge construction methods. Currently, construction work on the new double-track railway project of the Isan line is delayed from the original plan, primarily due to difficulties in delivering the construction area to the contractor.
Overall construction progress stands at approximately 2.35%, which is slower than planned by approximately 5.74%. Contract 1, covering the Ban Phai - Nong Phok section spanning 180 km, began work on March 15, 2023, with progress at 4.62%, delayed by 4.64%. Contract 2, encompassing the Nong Phok - Mittraphap Bridge 3 section covering a distance of 175 km, commenced work on April 21, 2023, with progress at 0.09% and a delay of 6.84%. The SRT is currently in the process of expediting the delivery of construction areas to contractors to facilitate progress.
Previously, although the SRT gradually handed over some areas to contractors, most of the areas were not adjacent to each other, resulting in distances of less than 5 km between plots. Consequently, machinery could not be brought in to work in these areas. For Contract 1, the SRT has delivered the construction area to AA Joint Venture, with Cho. Thawee & Associates, the contractor, completing 60% of the work. Approximately 40% of the area for Contract 2 has been delivered to Unique Joint Venture, the contractor. It is anticipated that 100% of the construction area for both contracts will be delivered within the year 67.
Currently, almost all expropriation areas have received consent from villagers, with approximately 10% remaining who have not yet signed contracts for the purchase and sale of expropriated real estate, citing disagreement with the appraised price they consider unfair. Efforts to clarify and reach understanding will be accelerated to conclude the process as soon as possible. This project involves expropriation in Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Mukdahan, and Nakhon Phanom, totaling approximately 8,000 plots and 15,000 rai, with an expropriation budget of approximately 10 billion baht. Construction for this project is estimated to take approximately 4 years, with completion expected around 2070.
