Opening of Shwe Nyaung-Taunggyi-HsaikKhaung-NamtSam-MoeNe` Railways in Southern Shan State Opening of Shwe Nyaung-Taunggyi-HsaikKhaung-NamtSam-MoeNe` Railways in Southern Shan State was held at the pandals of NamtSam and HsaikKhaung Stations, Sunday. The inauguration ceremony took place at NamtSam Station where Prime Minister General Soe Win delivered an address, saying that ShweNyaung-Taunggyi-HsaikKhaung-NamtSam-MoeNe` Railways have appeared as friendship railways. Nearly 700,000 national people such as Shan, Bamah, PaO, Palaung, Inntha, Danu, Lahu and Lisu from 1,360 villages in ShweNyaung, Taunggyi, Hopone, HsiSaing, Loilem, NamtSam and MoeNe` Townships which the railways pass through, will have easy access of transportation not only by railways but also by motorway. The railways which is 197 miles long on Shan Mountain Ranges, were built by cooperative efforts of engineers, technicians and the staff of the Rail Transportation based on tremendous volunteer services of the Tatmadawmen through forest and ravines. As the Government established the transport infrastructures to the length and breadth of the nation, over 57,100 miles of tar, gravel and hard ones, have been built as well as 210 bridges including 7 bridges across Ayeyarwaddy River, 2 of Chindwin and 5 of Thanlwin Rivers. In the sector of rail transportation, over 1,100 new rail miles have been expanded for the public transport. In addition to Shan State, Yoma circular rail line and Yay-Dawei rail line on the plain has also appeared as new traveling route.
