Veeris Inspects Wongwian Yai-Mahachai Area, Plans Community Development Along Railway in Talat Phlu

December 7, 2027 | 2:28 PM
Veeris Ammarapala, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), inspected the Wongwian Yai - Mahachai - Samut Sakhon Diesel Rail Depot area to prepare for community development in the Talat Phlu district of Bangkok. This initiative aims to enhance service efficiency and cater to the needs of this key economic area in the western region.
Mr. Ammarapala stated that the SRT is working to improve the Talat Phlu community into a tourist destination while maximizing service efficiency, convenience, and safety for passengers. The suburban train service connecting Bangkok with Samut Sakhon province is crucial as it serves one of the main economic areas in the western region.
"I have instructed SRT officials, both at the central and regional levels, to collaborate in developing and maintaining areas along the railway, including railway lines, stations, factories, and employee housing. This will ensure orderliness, safety, and enhance the organization's image, as well as the quality of life for surrounding communities. This is a key factor in encouraging continuous public transport use," said Mr. Ammarapala.
The Wongwian Yai - Talat Phlu - Mahachai line currently operates 34 trains daily (round trip), serving approximately 8,800 passengers per day. The majority of passengers are working adults, students, and those commuting between Bangkok and Samut Sakhon. This rail service provides a convenient, safe, and cost-effective alternative to the often congested Rama 2 Road, promoting rail transport as a viable option for the public.
What has changed on the train from Wongwian Yai Station to Mahachai? (Jan 2025)
In the past, this train line had very old tracks. The train cars shook and swayed, causing inconvenience to passengers. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has therefore undertaken a major renovation. To improve the railway tracks, the SRT will gradually carry out the work during periods when there are no trains running.
The Wongwian Yai - Mahachai train line has 5 main stations: Wongwian Yai Station, Talat Phlu, Wat Sing, Rang Pho, and Mahachai. There are also stops along the route at important points. The train service runs 34 round trips per day.
From Wongwian Yai Station to Mahachai, the service operates from 5:30 AM to 8:10 PM. From Mahachai Station to Wongwian Yai, the service operates from 4:30 AM to 7:30 PM.
Fares for ordinary trains start at 3-10 baht. Air-conditioned trains start at 20 baht.
## Private sector proposes 'adding train carriages to Mahachai-Wongwian Yai line' at provincial meeting
**Naew Na, Wednesday, January 22, 2025, 8:57 AM**
At the meeting room on the 3rd floor of the Samut Sakhon Chamber of Commerce, reporters reported that Mr. Chathip Tangkunpaisan, President of the Chamber of Commerce, chaired the meeting of the Joint Public-Private Sector Committee (JPPSC) of Samut Sakhon Province. Dr. Atcharee Ngampromsakul, President of the Federation of Thai Industries Samut Sakhon, Mr. Supot Tangvichitruk, President of the Thai Bankers' Association Samut Sakhon Province, along with Dr. Apisit Techanithisawat, President of the Federation of Thai Industries Central Region, President of the Samut Sakhon Fisheries Association, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of the Federation of Thai Industries, the Samut Sakhon Journalists Association, and related persons attended the meeting. The purpose was to discuss and consider issues related to solving problems and developing the province's social economy through the mechanism of the Joint Public-Private Sector Committee for Economic Problem Solving, Samut Sakhon Province (JPPS). The Governor of Samut Sakhon Province chairs this committee.
The meeting discussed various issues, including updates on the progress of matters previously proposed to the JPPS. In addition, the meeting considered two issues to be proposed as agenda items for the JPPS meeting. The Federation of Thai Industries, Samut Sakhon Province, proposed through the JPPSC meeting to include the addition of train carriages to the Mahachai-Wongwian Yai line. This aims to expand transportation capacity between Samut Sakhon Province and Bangkok, in addition to road transport, which is currently facing challenges due to road conditions and traffic.
Furthermore, the Samut Sakhon Fisheries Association proposed to include the issue of marine debris in the JPPS meeting agenda. This is to encourage all parties to pay attention to the problem of marine debris, which originates from waste on land, especially plastic waste that falls into canals and floats out to sea. This creates problems for aquatic animals and the ecosystem, especially the problem of microplastics, which affect the health of those who consume marine animals. The meeting requested that the organizations proposing the agenda prepare relevant documents for inclusion in the JPPS meeting.
Talad Plu Market (February 2025) has a new look! This market, also known as Ratchadaphisek Market, is a famous food hub in the Talad Plu area, connecting tourists to the local community's way of life.
Talad Plu Market, or the former Ratchadaphisek Market, is a long-standing market. Because the structures were old and run-down, Bangkok's Market Office renovated it to be more modern and meet consumer needs. They are focusing on take-home food to attract Thai and foreign tourists. There are 128 stalls, and a medium-sized food center has been created, selling ready-to-eat food, made-to-order dishes, and desserts, with seating available.
There is also a fresh market section with vegetables, fruits, and general goods. A waiting area for public transport is located in front of the market. The restrooms have been upgraded to a premium level, emphasizing hygiene. For sanitation and environmental quality, small settling tanks have been installed for each food stall to filter grease before wastewater goes into the public sewers, preventing problems with drainage into public waterways. Talad Plu Market, or the former Ratchadaphisek Market, is open daily and aims to become a Premium Market of Bangkok.
Talad Plu Market, or the former Ratchadaphisek Market, is an old market that has served the public and nearby communities for over 37 years.
