The MRT Purple Line Project (Tao Poon - Rat Burana, Kanchanaphisek Ring Road) includes an underground station. Construction requires a 24-hour traffic diversion on the outbound side of Somdet Phra Chao Taksin Road near Kasikorn Bank, reducing outbound traffic to two lanes. Inbound traffic remains at two lanes. Unique Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited is constructing the retaining wall for Somdej Phra Pinklao Hospital Station.
The MRTA will build an underground walkway connecting the station's ticket sales floor with the hospital's outpatient building (OPD) and its underground parking lot. This will provide convenient access for both train and hospital users. Upon project completion, the MRTA will restore landscaping in the construction area.

Bangkok's Purple Line Subway Extension Employs Advanced Tunnel Boring Technology
Bangkok, Thailand (April 26, 2024) Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit launched a key phase of the Purple Line subway extension, employing advanced tunnel boring machines to link the Tao Poon and Rat Burana areas of Bangkok. The Minister underscored the importance of construction safety standards and expressed confidence in the project's commitment to a 20-baht flat fare across all Bangkok subway lines by September 2025.
The Purple Line expansion is a major infrastructure project designed to ease traffic and increase transport options, projected to serve 120,000 passengers daily. The Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) oversees construction, expected to be complete by 2028.
Tunneling Technology: The project utilizes soil pressure balance tunnel boring heads, a specialized technology ideal for Bangkok's clay and sand soil conditions with high groundwater pressure. These machines, measuring 9.6 meters in length and weighing 370 tons, are capable of drilling tunnels with an internal diameter of 5.7 meters at depths of 15 - 35 meters. They have an average drilling capacity of 10 - 15 meters per day.
In addition to the boring heads, the project includes soil conveying pipes, direction control systems, hydraulic transportation equipment, and ventilation systems to ensure a safe and efficient tunneling process.
Minister Juangroongruangkit emphasized the focus on safety throughout the construction process. He also explained the plan to achieve the 20-baht fare, involving a Common Ticket Act and a fund supported by the government, the Energy Conservation Fund, and MRTA revenue to subsidize private operators.
Construction work continues on the Purple Line extension in front of the Suksawat checkpoint, where elevated sections are being installed across the Chalerm Maha Nakhon Expressway. This work is proceeding according to plan.
Traffic Notice: Due to the construction, a temporary diversion is in place on the outbound side of Suksawat Road from Soi Suksawat 31/1 to Soi Suksawat 33/1 (approximately 300 meters). This is necessary to facilitate the installation of Pier Segments by Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited, the contractor responsible for [add specifics: stations, parking, etc.].
Project Progress: Civil works for the Purple Line Project, Tao Poon Rat Burana section, reached 13.50% completion in March.
About the Project: The Purple Line extension will have a total distance of 23.63 kilometers, including:
14.29 kilometers of underground track with 10 stations
9.34 kilometers of elevated track with 7 stations
The extension is scheduled to open for service in 2028.

MRT Purple Line Project, Tao Poon Section, Rat Burana, Kanchanaphisek Ring Road, MRT Purple Line
In the fifth contract, which covers the Dao Khanong - Kru Nai section, Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited is the contractor for the construction of the runway, park-and-ride facility, and electric train parking building. The contractor has implemented traffic diversions. On the outbound side of Suksawat Road, from the area of the bridge over the Dao Khanong Canal to the foot of the Bang Pakaeo elevated bridge, the center island and one traffic lane are closed.
On the inbound side, from the foot of the Bang Pakaeo elevated bridge to the bridge over the Dao Khanong Canal, two traffic lanes near the center island are closed, allowing three lanes of travel on the outbound side and two lanes on the inbound side.
Recently, the contractor demolished a commercial building around Soi Suksawat 7 and commercial buildings in the area of Soi Suksawat 14 near Bangkok Bank to prepare for the construction of station entrances and exits, as well as the dismantling and relocation of public utilities.
Bang Pakaeo Station, located between Soi Suksawat 5-9, will have four entry and exit points.
The construction work for the Purple Line MRT project, Tao Poon - Rat Burana - Khru Nai section, has achieved 13.50% progress in civil works as of March.
The Purple Line Project, Tao Poon - Rat Burana (Kanchanaphisek Ring Road), is an expansion of the route and development of the mass transit network. It will be a mass transit system that connects the area and supports people's travel connections in the north-south direction from the inner Bangkok area to the Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan provinces. This helps to complete the travel network using the mass rapid transit system.
The route starts from Tao Poon Station, which is a joint station of the MRT Chalong Ratchadham Line (MRT Purple Line) and the MRT Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line (MRT Blue Line). It is expected to open for service by 2028.
Bang Pakok Station is constructing a parking building for the MRT Purple Line beneath the MRT Purple Line (April 2024). It is an elevated station, with Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited serving as the construction contractor for contract number 5, Dao Khanong-Kru Nai section. There are two entrances and exits directly connected to the station's parking building, capable of accommodating 1,657 cars. The contractor has implemented traffic diversions for construction work at Bang Pakok Station, closing lanes on the inbound and outbound sides. On the inbound side, the closures extend from the entrance of Soi Suksawat Soi 32 to Soi Suksawat 28, and on the outbound side, from Soi Suksawat 19 (Soi Wat Bang Pakok) to Soi Suksawat 23. Consequently, there will be three inbound and three outbound traffic lanes remaining. Recently, a fence was erected on the inbound side of Suksawat Road to mark the start of construction for entrance, exit, and park-and-ride buildings.
Bang Pakok Station is located near Soi Suksawat 23 and Soi Suksawat 25, with two entry and exit points as follows:
Point 1 is on the side of Soi Suksawat 23 on the outbound side of Suksawat Road, equipped with normal stairs, an escalator, and a passenger elevator.
Point 2 is on the side of Soi Suksawat 32 on the inbound side of Suksawat Road, also featuring normal stairs, an escalator, and a passenger elevator.
Both entrances and exits will directly connect to the park-and-ride building of the station, capable of accommodating 1,657 cars.
Regarding the Purple Line MRT project from Tao Poon to Rat Burana via Kanchanaphisek Ring Road, the latest progress report on contract 5 as of March indicates that civil works have achieved 13.50% completion. The Purple Line Project spans a total distance of 23.63 kilometers, comprising a 14.29-kilometer underground runway structure with 10 stations and a 9.34-kilometer elevated runway structure with 7 stations.
