MRTA installs Smart Parking for the Orange Line; system testing begins May 1st.
FM91, April 30, 2024, at 7:11 p.m.
The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has installed a Smart Parking system at two locations along the Orange Line: the Khlong Ban Ma Station parking building and the MRTA Station parking lot on the Thailand Cultural Center - Minburi (Suwinthawong) route. Public system testing will start on May 1st, 2024.
Mr. Witthaya Phanmongkol, Deputy Governor (Operations) and Acting Governor of the MRTA, states that this initiative aligns with the Deputy Minister of Transport's directive to improve MRTA services and encourage public usage. The Smart Parking system aims to enhance user experience, accessibility, and equality, while also addressing traffic congestion and PM2.5 pollution.
The MRTA Smart Parking system uses modern technology for entry/exit management, discount tracking, and expanded payment options. A dedicated MRTA Parking application provides additional convenience for users.
Testing Phase Details
The public is invited to test the Smart Parking system at both locations beginning May 1st, 2024, with the following conditions:
Free parking for up to 48 hours.
Parking exceeding 48 hours will incur a fee of 100 baht/day for cars and 50 baht/day for motorcycles (testing phase applies to the Khlong Ban Ma station only).
Vehicles parked over 360 hours (15 days) will be removed.
The Khlong Ban Ma Station parking building (floors 1-2 only) accommodates 190 cars and 150 motorcycles. The MRTA Station lot holds 200 cars. Both offer restrooms, parking space guidance systems, CCTV, and security. The MRTA plans future enhancements including vending machines, EV taxi spots, and EV chargers.
