Kru Nai Station: Latest updates include platform beam installation and laying of long stretches of track for the MRT Purple Line (August 2024)
Kru Nai Station, part of the MRT Purple Line project (Tao Poon - Rat Burana - Kanchanaphisek Ring Road section), has announced a temporary traffic diversion. One lane will be closed on both the inbound and outbound sides of Suksawat Road, near the SUSCO gas station up to Soi Suksawat 45, for a distance of approximately 330 meters. This closure is to facilitate beam assembly for lifting work at Kru Nai Station and will be in effect from August 11, 2024, to November 10, 2024, between 10:00 PM and 4:00 AM. During these hours, two lanes will remain open on both sides of the road.
Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited, the contractor responsible for elevated track and station construction, as well as park-and-ride facilities (Contract 5: Dao Khanong - Kru Nai section), reported 18.54% completion of civil works as of July 2024.
The latest updates indicate that platform beams (Cross Beams) are being installed at the ticketing level of Kru Nai Station. Additionally, track segments are being laid, and the areas for all four station entrances/exits have been cleared.
Kru Nai Station, the final station on the line, is located in front of Soi Suksawat 70 and will have four access points.

Update on the Purple Line MRT track crossing the Bhumibol Bridge (September 2024)
Track installation across the Bhumibol Bridge on the median of Suksawat Road: Installation began on July 3, 2024, using the Balance Cantilever method. This method is employed when the distance between bridge piers exceeds 35 meters, such as when crossing canals, bridges, or expressways. In this construction method, sections are extended from both sides with prestressed cables to counteract the weight of the overhang. Once the final section is reached, cables are tensioned in the center to support the continuous structure.
Latest progress: Track sections have been installed across the Bhumibol Bridge on the side heading up the bridge, with only a small section remaining on the side descending onto Suksawat Road. Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited is the contractor responsible for constructing the elevated track, stations, parking buildings, and park-and-ride facilities.

MRTA confirms continuous operation of Purple Line North-South for 46 km
The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) is preparing to propose the operational model for the Purple Line South (Tao Poon - Rat Burana) to the new MRTA board once it is appointed. MRTA maintains that continuous operation of both the Purple Line South (23.63 km) and the existing Purple Line North (Tao Poon - Khlong Bang Phai, 23 km) is the most suitable model, based on studies and analysis under the Public-Private Partnership Act B.E. 2562.
Continuous operation will provide convenient connectivity for passengers throughout the Purple Line, similar to the MRT Blue Line and BTS Green Line. This eliminates the need for a new bidding process for the operator. MRTA will negotiate with Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM), the current operator of the Purple Line North, to amend the concession agreement for the entire line.
Previously, the State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO) and the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) favored opening a bidding process for a new operator. However, MRTA's analysis found that this would give BEM an advantage and could lead to other issues. Additionally, the new operator's system installation would need to be compatible with the Purple Line North to avoid operational problems. Specifying this in the terms of reference could lead to complaints of bid rigging.
If approved by the MRTA board, the proposal will be submitted to the Ministry of Transport and then to the Cabinet for consideration. The system installation and train procurement should begin within 2025 to meet MRTA's target of opening the Purple Line South by the end of 2028.
The Purple Line North has been in operation since August 2016, with BEM as the operator and system installer under a 30-year concession agreement signed in 2013. The concession expires in 2043. The Purple Line North operates under a PPP Gross Cost model, where the government hires a private company to manage operations, and the government collects fares. This allows for immediate implementation of government policies, such as the 20-baht maximum fare.
The MRT Purple Line project, Tao Poon - Rat Burana (Kanchanaphisek Ring Road) section, is currently under construction. The contractor, Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited, is responsible for building the tracks, park-and-ride facilities, and train parking structures under Contract No. 5 for the section between Dao Khanong and Khru Nai. As of August 2024, construction progress has reached 19.55%.
The contractor has closed traffic on outbound Suksawat Road, diverting one lane near the Dao Khanong canal bridge to the Bang Pakok elevated bridge, as well as two lanes on the inbound side. As a result, three outbound lanes and two inbound lanes remain open.
Currently, foundation work for station structures and elevated tracks is underway. The contractor has demolished commercial buildings to construct station access points and has fenced off the area for construction at Bang Pakok Station, which will be located between Suksawat Soi 5 and Soi 9, with four station entrances/exits.

The latest development involves the installation of cross beams at Pracha Uthit Intersection Station. These beams are structural components that extend from the station's pillars to support the floor of the ticket hall. Cross beams to support the platform floor have also been installed.
Pracha Uthit Intersection Station is located near Wat Sarod Soi (Suk Sawat 44) close to Pracha Uthit Intersection. It will have 4 access points.

Wongwian Yai Station, Future Interchange Station for 3 MRT Lines (Purple Line, October 2027)
The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) announced that Unique Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited, the contractor for the design and construction of the underground tunnels and stations for the MRT Purple Line Project, Tao Poon - Rat Burana (Kanchanaphisek Ring Road) Section, Contract 4: Saphan Phut - Dao Khanong Section, needs to close and divert traffic on Somdet Phrachao Taksin Road, outbound side, from Merry Kings Department Store to Cockpit Auto Service Center, to construct the retaining wall of Wongwian Yai Station. This closure will be in effect 24 hours a day from October 1 to December 31, 2027.
During this period, two lanes of traffic will be open in each direction (inbound and outbound).
Construction progress under Contract 4 as of the end of September 2027: Civil works are 40.14% complete.
Wongwian Yai Station will be an interchange station connecting to the BTS Silom Line's Wongwian Yai Station and the Wongwian Yai Station of the MRT Red Line Project, Hua Lamphong - Maha Chai Section. The Purple Line will have 17 stations: 10 underground and 7 elevated, covering a total distance of 23.6 kilometers.
