Celebrating a Rich Legacy
127 years ago, on March 26, 1896, His Majesty King Chulalongkorn inaugurated Thailand's first railway line between Bangkok and Ayutthaya. This historic event marked the birth of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), an organization that continues to play a vital role in the nation's development.
Railways: Thailand's Economic Backbone
Today, Thailand's rail system is essential for both passenger and freight transport. In line with government policy, rail is becoming the country's primary mode of transportation, reducing logistics costs and boosting economic growth. The SRT is a key player in this transformation, with a clear mission to develop an efficient, modern, and comprehensive rail network that supports Thailand's economic ambitions.
Transforming Thai Railways
Under the leadership of Governor Nirut Maneepan, the SRT has undertaken numerous projects to modernize the country's rail infrastructure. Bangkok Apiwat Central Station, officially opened on January 19, 2023, is a testament to this progress. This transportation hub is now the largest train station in ASEAN, providing world-class facilities and services.
Expanding the Network
The SRT is dedicated to expanding its double-track railway lines. Many of these projects are now operational, including crucial sections in the northeast and south. New routes like the Den Chai-Chiang Rai-Chiang Khong line are also under construction, further extending Thailand's rail reach.
High-Speed Ambitions
The much-anticipated Thai-Chinese high-speed rail project, connecting Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima, is progressing steadily and is expected to launch in 2028. This high-speed line will revolutionize travel within Thailand. Additionally, the SRT has introduced 50 new diesel-electric locomotives to enhance its capacity and efficiency.
The Future of Thai Railways
The State Railway of Thailand is an organization driven by innovation and progress. With its commitment to continuous development, the SRT is poised to shape the future of transportation in Thailand, fostering economic growth, connectivity, and a better quality of life for all.

22/04/2024, 14:23
Bangkok, 22 April The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and the Faculty of Medicine at King Mongkut's University of Technology Ladkrabang organized the 6th Doctor Train activity aimed at conducting health check-ups with a team of medical experts. They are ready to launch a new app, Health History Record, for a better quality of life.
Mr. Nirut Maneephan, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), presided over the opening ceremony of the Doctor Train activity "Good Health Train People, Happy Life" by K-MED and SRT: Medical Innovation. Towards a healthy community at Bangkok Station (Hua Lamphong) with Professor Dr. Anan Srikiatkhajorn, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), and Dr. Anawat Sermsawan, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, as well as the executive teams of both institutions. This activity, a cooperation between the railways and King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), offers health screening services to railway personnel, their families, and citizens aged 20 years and over between 22 - 23 April 2024, encouraging everyone to access treatment and services, thus promoting equitable public health.
Mr. Ekarat Sriarayanphong, Head of the Office of the Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, revealed that the State Railway of Thailand and the Faculty of Medicine at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) have joined forces to organize the Doctor Train activity, "Healthy Train People, Happy Lives," led by a team of leading medical experts in Thailand, including doctors and nurses from Burachat Chaiyakorn Hospital. They provide health check services, diagnose, and screen for various diseases such as heart disease, lung disease, allergies, asthma, and other important medical conditions for employees, railway workers, their families, and the general public, totaling more than 500 people, free of charge. Additionally, they offer advice on various health problems, and if a disease is detected, the medical team will refer patients for treatment at collaborating hospitals for immediate care.
Dr. Anawat Sermsawan, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, added that KMITL's Faculty of Medicine is an international medical faculty that focuses on producing doctors with professional medical competencies of international standards, as well as research and innovation abilities. During the recent COVID-19 pandemic crisis, the Faculty of Medicine and various faculties of KMITL collaborated to develop medical equipment such as oxygen generators and High Flow Oxygen Controllers, distributing them to various agencies across all regions. In organizing this activity, they elevate the level of public health services. The Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering at KMITL have developed the Metabolic Syndrome application for the Android system, used as a model for a new type of healthcare for the people. This application records health history or OPD cards, aiding in daily health assessment and planning. It includes other recorded information useful for maintaining health, such as drug allergies, functioning as an individual's personal health book. It proves useful for recording medical history and ensuring continuity, reducing the risk of using drugs that patients are allergic to, and addressing other limitations within the application. Moreover, it includes various engaging activities to motivate appropriate behavioral changes to reduce the risk of developing serious diseases. It will be piloted first among railway personnel and further developed for use in other communities.
Mr. Ekarat added that this Doctor Train activity is considered another community health system development activity aiming to promote healthy behaviors, improve lifestyles, and raise awareness about health. The Railway is committed to continuously carrying out social responsibility activities following the concept of "Train with Community" introduced by Mr. Nirut Maneepan, Governor. This initiative aims to create opportunities for everyone to access medical examinations and healthcare systems, including railway workers, their families, neighbors, and people in nearby areas. Over the past year, under the memorandum of understanding between the Railway and the Faculty of Medicine at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), a medical team has been deployed to set up mobile specialist units, continuously providing health checks in various regions across the country, such as Chumphon, Lampang, Nakhon Ratchasima, Kaeng Khoi, and Uttaradit. More than 2,700 people, including 1,890 railway workers and 810 members of the general public, have received services, including counseling for health problems and continuous symptom monitoring, which can be communicated with Family Care through the application free of charge. Additionally, train cars will be converted into mobile train clinics, attached to trains on various routes, with facilities including examination rooms, x-ray rooms, screening rooms, medicine dispensing rooms, doctor meeting rooms, food storage rooms, and bathrooms, expected to be completed by 2024 for use in the Doctor Train project. - Thai News Agency

Ms. Phattakorn Sinsuk, Director of Chatuchak District, provided updates on the ongoing public disturbance caused by a Mor Lam concert staged without a permit on State Railway of Thailand (SRT) land near the Bangkok Bus Terminal (Chatuchak) or Mo Chit 2. The concert generated noise complaints from residents within a several-kilometer radius.
Upon inspection, authorities determined the organizers were operating without a music performance license and creating excessive noise. Initial steps included working with organizers to reduce noise and filing charges for operating without a permit and creating a public nuisance.
Bangkok will meet with the SRT and other relevant parties on May 2nd to discuss strategies for preventing future unauthorized Mor Lam concerts on this land.
Ms. Sinsuk stated that Chatuchak District will increase inspections in the area. Should preparations for a concert be discovered, officials will reiterate the prohibition of music performances on that site. Violators will face prosecution.
Furthermore, officials observed the illegal sale of repackaged liquor during past unauthorized concerts. In response, the Excise Department has been engaged for further investigation and legal action.

Kanchanaburi - The State Railway of Thailand is joining hands with the Thai-Myanmar joint investment network group to advance the warehouse project at the goods transfer point on the railway, Ban Wang Yen, Kanchanaburi.
OPT News 30 Apr. 2024
The management team of West Coast Co., Ltd. Engineering and Myanmar joint venture investors, along with the Dean of the Faculty of Railway and Transportation at Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, participated in surveying the construction area of the rail freight station and the construction site of the Kanchanaburi land port. In the project of Shanghai company Thai Rubber Products Co., Ltd., a joint venture team visited the actual area. They are ready to push the project towards completion by the end of 2024 and are preparing to install the main pillar behind the State Railway of Thailand. Documents for permission to use the area have been submitted.
Reporters stated that at the meeting room of Phimwana Royal Riverkwai Resort and Spa, Mr. Yongyut Kongsawat, executive of Shanghai company Thai Rubber Products Co., Ltd., invited the Thai joint venture group consisting of Mr. Wanchai Payakkasem, Mr. Patchai Wongngam, Mr. Settharat Luetsakul, Inspector General of the Ministry of Industry, Dr. Tin Thirakultomon from Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, Mr. Khajon Siwarangsan, Head of the Railway Steel Engineering Business Unit, and Mr. Somyut Ruean-ngam, Advisor to the Minister of Transport. As for the Burmese joint venture group, it consisted of Mr. U y Pa, Capt. Ye Myint Tun, U Wai Phyo Sann, U Hla Kyaing, and A ung Myitta (Matthew), a group of Burmese businessmen. They visited the construction site for the rail freight station and the construction site of the Kanchanaburi land port at Wang Yen Station construction site, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi Province.
On this occasion, the entire group traveled to Sangkhlaburi District to observe the route area in preparation for the development of using the railway route from Kanchanaburi to exit to Myanmar. It will aid in transporting various goods between the two countries, making it more convenient once this project is completed. Currently, Myanmar's agricultural productivity is abundant, but goods must pass through countries in the Asian and European zones such as China and Vietnam, resulting in long transportation distances. If this project succeeds, the transportation distance will be greatly reduced. Additionally, the current logistics transportation with large car transport is facing problems due to inconvenient routes, causing issues for people in the area and significantly affecting tourism.
Shanghai Company Thai Rubber Products Co., Ltd. has prepared three projects: a railway route, a land boat route, and air routes. The preparations have been made in every aspect, but the process requires time. However, the train route will commence first at Ban Wang Yen Station to serve as a warehouse before importing and exporting to various countries, namely Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, China, Malaysia, and Singapore. There will be a complete customs checkpoint around Ban Wang Yen station to immediately check incoming and outgoing products.
On this occasion, the Myanmar joint venture group attended a meeting to hear the joint venture plans of Shanghai company Thai Rubber Products Co., Ltd., and they were all satisfied. They are prepared to collaborate to advance the warehouse project near Wang Yen Station, which is the ideal point for delivering products to China, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore. All channels can be interconnected and exchanged in the most convenient way. Currently, products imported from Myanmar, such as rubber, are produced in large quantities. Therefore, before exporting to any country, they can be pre-processed into various formats. Once this project succeeds, exports will be three times faster, facilitating product distribution to each country. The railway route, motorway road, and all routes will be completed and opened by the end of 2025, allowing products to be sent to major points such as Ayutthaya Province and Laem Chabang.
After the Myanmar joint investment group and the Thai joint investment group visited the Ban Phra Chedi Sam Ong checkpoint to observe the original railway route area and prepare for the development of the railway channel area, discussions were held with the joint venture partners. If this project succeeds, delivering domestic products to countries in the Asian and European zones will be more convenient, eliminating the need for long and time-consuming routes and various compensation costs.
On this occasion, Mr. Yongyut Kongsawat, executive of Shanghai Thai Rubber Products Co., Ltd., along with his group, visited the atmosphere at the Three Pagodas Checkpoint, which was bustling with trucks transporting large Burmese goods across the border. The area beside Wat Phra Chedi Sam Ong had Myanmar workers assisting in unloading products from trucks belonging to Thai entrepreneurs, which were then loaded into trucks of Myanmar entrepreneurs. The exported products include consumer products used in the plastics, fishing, and oil industries, with most destined for important economic cities of Myanmar such as Mudong, Mawlamyine, and Yangon.
This event coincides with unrest in Myanmar, causing freight operators to face difficulties transporting goods at various border crossing points. This has led to increased trade and tourism at the Three Pagoda Checkpoint. Entrepreneurs are transporting goods in greater numbers than ever before, prompting Mr. Yongyut Kongsawat to report the situation to his superiors in order to request officials' assistance with customs procedures. In the first quarter of 2024, the majority of exported products will include energy drinks, spirits, fuel, and general miscellaneous items worth 1.2 billion baht, generating government tax revenue of 40 million baht per year.
